Ms. Bennett has practiced law in Alpena since 1980. Her practice is concentrated in the areas of business law, health care law, and elder law, including estate planning and planning for long term care.
In the area of business law, Ms. Bennett represents a wide range of clients, including individual entrepreneurs, medical and professional practices, family corporations and large institutions, advising on day-to-day business matters as well as complex negotiations, transactions and litigation. She understands the goals and objectives of the business client as well as the client’s expectations for cost-efficiency and quick response.
In the area of elder law and estate planning, Ms. Bennett assists individuals and families in planning for the use and protection of assets during life, including incapacity and extended illness, and the ultimate transfer of assets after death, using techniques designed to avoid disputes and minimize expense and delay. Ms Bennett counsels and assists clients in applying for and receiving assistance through the Medicaid program as well as other benefits for which they may be eligible.
Ms. Bennett obtained her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her Juris Doctor in 1978 from the University of Michigan Law School.
She is the member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, a member and past president of 26th Circuit Bar Association and a member of the State Bar of Michigan (Probate & Estate Planning Section, Health Care Law Section).
Ms. Bennett is a frequent lecturer on a variety of topics involving long term care, elder law and medicaid. She is also the author of "Due Process Considerations in Suspension of Physicians Hospital Staff Privileges," Am Jur, Trials, Vol 32, 1985.
Ms. Bennett is an active community volunteer currently serving on the Planned Gifts Committee for Alpena Regional Medical Center Development Council and the Board of Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Arts, Inc (Art in the Loft). She developed and chaired the community task force which formed Sunrise Mediation Center, a community based alternative dispute resolution program for Northeast Michigan.
